Some of the shoe
construction methods used in Rockports:
Strobel Construction:
In the Strobel shoe construction, a flexible insole (midsole) is
first completely sewn on to the upper, before the closed upper is
properly shaped with the last. Shoes made using the Strobel
construction are thought to be more flexible and compliant to the
shape of the foot, hence offering extra comfort, especially in the
forefoot area.
San Crispino Construction:
A traditional method of shoe construction whereby the leather uppers
are first all punched out or cut out by hand, followed by
hand-sewing the upper all around the insole in a single sewing
action, without the use of any chemical products. These shoes are
said to be more flexible and stable, as well as more elegant in
looks.
