athletic footwear including Saucony walking shoes, Saucony trail
running shoes, Saucony trainers, Saucony cross-trainers, as well
as casual leather shoes, athletic apparel and related accessories.
The Saucony brand now includes Saucony Originals - a classic/retro
line of technical running shoes that feature throwback styles from
the early 1980's.
HISTORY OF SAUCONY:
The Saucony company has its roots dating back to the 1910's when
Abraham Hyde set up a footwear company called A.R. Hyde and Sons.
This is followed by a half century of manufacturing a wide variety
of footwear, including carpet slippers, ice skates, army boots,
and even astronaut boots.
In 1968, the Hyde company acquired the Saucony name and added
Saucony running shoes to its stable of products. However, before
the late 1970's, Saucony shoes were largely a best-kept secret
among a niche group of discerning runners who could count on their
shoes to improve their performance. It all changed after Saucony
shoes were acknowledged with an excellence award given by a
popular U.S. magazine. The publicity that followed helped
established Saucony sneakers as one of the leading running shoe
brands on the market.
In 2005, Saucony became a part of the Stride Rite Group, which
also included other footwear brand names such as Keds, Sperry
Top-Sider, and Robeez.
SAUCONY TRIVIAL:
- Saucony rhymes with "balcony" and is pronounced as
"saw-co-knee'.
