Skechers
USA, Inc., based in Manhattan Beach, California, designs and
markets a diverse range of trendy footwear for men, women and
kids. With over 2,000 shoe styles available at present, Skecher
shoes are meant for just about anyone from any walks of life.
Skechers' main footwear brands include:
Skechers USA (casual shoes, dress shoes, dress casuals, and
comfort shoes - for men and women);
Skechers Sport (trail running shoes, joggers, hikers, street
casuals, and sport sandals - for women and men);
Skechers Work (work shoes, work boots, field boots, hiking boots,
and athletic oxfords - for men and women);
Skechers Cali (canvas sneakers, skimmers, sandals, flip flops,
thongs, espadrilles, and clogs for young women);
Skechers Collection (leather shoes, oxfords, slip-ons and sandals
for young men); and
Skechers Kids (Skechers for infants, toddlers, boys, and girls);
In addition, the company also has a host of brands that are
marketed separately from the Skechers brand, including:
310 Motoring;
Michelle K;
Siren by Mark Nason;
Unltd. by Marc Ecko; and
Red by Marc Ecko.
Arguably, the most notable Skecher shoes over the years have been
the Skechers roller skates shoes, and the Doc Marten-like Skechers
sandals and Skechers boots. In the past few years, the company has
also firmly established the Skechers brand in the lucrative
mainstream teenager and urban youth market with the introduction
of dressy sandals and street-inspired sneakers. The one
current standout shoe is the Skechers Calies, essentially an
update and more stylish version of the ubiquitous Crocs shoes.
SKECHERS HISTORY:
Skechers was founded in 1992 by Robert Greenberg, who was also the
famed founder of the once popular athletic shoe brand, LA Gear. LA
Gear was one of the amazing success stories of a footwear company
that managed to become the third largest sneaker manufacturer in
USA within just 8 years from its incorporation in 1983. However,
financial disaster soon followed and after incurring massive
losses in 1991, Robert Greenberg was ousted from the company he
created. Just a few days later, Robert Greenberg started Skechers.
And as of today, the signs are still good for a repeat of another
amazing success story.
SKECHERS TRIVIAL:
The success of Robert Greenberg (and indeed Skechers and L.A.
Gear) could perhaps be pointed to his uncanny ability to spot
trends and styles that are a sure-hit in the market, and then
create his own updated versions, which usually proved to be even
more a hit than their originals. The recent collaboration with
illustrious designers like Mark Nason and Michelle K, however,
seemed to argue otherwise in favor of injecting originality into
Skechers shoes.
SKECHERS & CELEBRITIES:
Skechers' past and present endorsees include Ashlee Simpson,
Carrie Underwood, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera.
